Want to make your halloween pumpkin carving a little more… intentional?
You can totally carve a pumpkin with the classic triangle eyes and jagged mouth… so fun!
Or, if you like, you can consciously choose to perform a pumpkin carving ritual with protective or magical symbols on them. (… the original intent behind the scary skull face of a jack-o-lantern was to scare away evil spirits and misfortune!)
Why not bring some of that magic back into your pumpkin carving and create a lantern to guide your way into the witches new year?
Pumpkin Carving Ritual
➡️ Over the dawn of the witche’s new year your pumpkin is going to be the lantern that lights the way into the year you want to create.
So what ENERGY do you want to invite in?
Think it over – perhaps love, or joy, harmony or abundance. Perhaps you want to protect your home and frighten away any bad vibes! Find or make a symbol that represents what you are calling in.
➡️ Now hollow out your pumpkin (setting aside the seeds to make enchanted snacks for later!) and carve your symbol onto it.
➡️ When you are ready to light the pumpkin, take a moment in meditation and imagine your pumpkin as a lantern to guide you towards what you want in the witche’s new year… or to guide what you want to you!
➡️ Consciously light the pumpkin, choosing to illuminate this path into the new year. Pop it outside your front door to call blessings into your home… or to create a field of protection!
This is a great ritual to do with kids!
As you carve the pumpkin, talk about all the things you would love to happen in the witches new year, how much fun you will have, the places you would love to go. When the pumpkin is ready, pop a song on and have a dance party to raise energy! Then everyone puts their hands on the pumpkin and says what you are calling in as a family. Light the pumpkin, and put it outside your front door to call that energy into your home!
You know what happens when you carve a pumpkin? You get loads of seeds to deal with.
What to do with the leftover pumpkin seeds?
- Roast them! Make enchanted snacks to nibble on through the Halloween night, seeding your new year intention within you!
- Birds LOVE pumpkin seeds, so if you are too lazy to do the whole roasting thing just give them a rinse, leave them out to dry overnight and put them in a paper bag ready to be fed to the birds.
- Keep a couple seeds to try and plant in at Imbolc or Equinox – so that you can watch your intention grow through the brighter months.
