My new course, the Mermaid Experience, is starting this weekend! Woohoo! And I just wanted to answer a question that pops up whenever I talk about mermaids with people – don’t I have to live by the sea to work with mermaids?
The answer is no! Mermaids are completely accessible to landlocked peeps as well as seashore-dwelling folks.
I think a lot of people get discouraged by mermaid magic books that seem to require that you live by the sea and can connect with the tides and perform magic in the waves. While I am sure that most of us dream of living by the ocean (me most definitely!) we have had to come to terms with the fact that we live closer to the motorway than the seashore.
The thing with mermaids if that there are a few ways of looking at them. Some people believe they are real etheric beings and swear that they have seen them at the seaside. Others think that they are an aspect of the Divine Feminine – a lens through which to see and understand the Goddess. They could be thought of as an archetype (that’s a universal mythic character that resides in the collective unconscious) representing the luscious wildness of the ocean: both calm and stormy, destructive and nurturing.
I’m a divine-feminine-archetype kinda gal. I’m way more interested in bringing the mermaid archetype ALIVE in my own life than than looking for mermaids in the sea or working sea magic.
The Mermaid Experience course has you connecting with mermaids in many forms – through meditation, intention, story, ritual and through and working with water, but not necessarily sea water. Tap water is fine!
