Venus vs Aphrodite

In the Rockstar Priestess world we work a lot with Aphrodite and Venus… but what is the difference between the energy of Venus vs Aphrodite energy? Let’s me share my experience working with both of them and make the differences clear!

What is Venus Energy?

Venus energy is earthy, physical and bountiful. She represents heaven on earth, and has a deep, practical edge to her. She is hands on flesh, copper coins and warmth in your heart. She’s what you can see and touch and love.

Venus is linked with gardens, fruits and flowers, as well as statecraft, charisma, good fortune and politics: the benefic Venus was considered the mother of Rome and was known as Venus Fortuna, lady of good fortune! She’s very civilised.

What is Aphrodite energy like?

Aphrodite is the sea and ocean. She holds an ancestral wild beauty: for many centuries she was represented as a rock or the earth itself and was a great mother goddess holding all things. She is charm and wit, lifted on swans wings and starlight.

Holding a freedom of sexuality, Aphrodite was the ever-untameable goddess of Love who did whatever she liked in the Greek pantheon… but she wasn’t just about sex. She was about all the best things in life: friends, beauty, food, joy and pleasure.

Venus vs Aphrodite: How are they different?

Energetically Aphrodite has a lightness that is different to Venus’ groundedness: Aphrodite feels like sea spray where Venus is a rooted rose bush. Aphrodite is the laughter at the feast and Venus is the plates of rich ripe fruits ready for you to taste and enjoy.

Both goddesses hold the archetype of the Goddess of Love and align with the planet Venus, and hold an almost identical place in the hearts of the cultures that loved them… they just have a slightly different way of holding that energy. They feel different, but they are on the same team, like sisters.

I like to work with Aphrodite’s energy and personality as a goddess in particular. She’s my girl and she is the energy I am devoted to, and for me that energy encompasses Venus just like it contains all the goddesses of Aphrodite’s lineage. Aphrodite and Venus are evolutions of the great Love and Life goddess of the middle east, who originated with Inanna of Mesopotamia and evolved and shifted through and as a part of many incarnations in the middle east and the mediteranean.

When I work with Venus I am usually working from a more archetypal and less personal lens, and from there Aphrodite is always implied.

These days Venus energy is partly astrological as she is intimately linked through name with the qualities of the planet Venus and that is how she is often worked with and honoured by occult and pagan practitioners. Goddesses are never stagnant and unchanging: they always move and shift and evolve with the times, and this archetypal planetary shift is another one of her many forms.

When I work with Venus, Aphrodite is there, and when I work with Aphrodite, Venus is there too. Like many goddesses they are sister shapeshifters, and their edges blur into each other: this is part of the mystery of the goddess!

It’s important to let go of there being a one right way to see and approach these goddesses: they are never just one thing. Just like how I am seen differently by the people I meet depending on the situation: some people see me in my priestess zone, so that’s how they experience me; some people see me stressed out and frustrated on the phone to the gas company, so that’s how they experience me; some people see me as a bombshell burlesque performer, so that’s how they experience me. Goddesses are the same.

You can work with Aphrodite without working with Venus: you can work with Venus and consider Aphrodite as the same being. You can see them as two totally separate goddesses, or you can see them as facets of the great Goddess of Love. All options work.
