Devotion: How I do it! Louise TarrierToday is a guestpost! It’s devotional month, so we have wonderful people sharing their own personal spiritual practice with us all week long. Lurvly.

Today we have the lovely Louise Tarrier, a Priestess of Avalon and a sea-soul, just like me, sharing what she does every day to connect with the Divine.

Demi has asked me to share my personal practice with you and I am so honoured to do so. My personal practice is an intuitive and experiential body led practice and one that many of you may already do on a daily basis. My spiritual practice is going for a walk and it is the most magical, wonderful way to connect with earth, with spirit and myself and one that I recommend to everyone. It is a conversation with the earth.  It is one of encounter with the land and the seashore and it offers me healing and inspiration whilst being an expression of my gratitude for life.

In my worldview the earth is alive and her voice is there to be heard for those who listen.  I love to walk along the coastal paths where I live and wherever I am traveling and to tune in. Where the sea meets the land is a particularly magical spot as if you listen hard enough you can hear the song of the sea. Here is the place where all of the earth songs are carried around the world and held in the memory of the water.

To listen to the earth’s song I walk the land regardless of where I am city or country. I explore the land and the coast by getting out and walking on the earth, even if it is covered in concrete. By walking I really get to know where I live and I try to walk the same trail through all seasons and all weathers until I can notice even small differences. It is amazing after a while the acceptance that you feel from the land and all of the beings who inhabit it.  When I walk I walk with purpose and intention. I try to feel the energy of the place and to listen and notice. I think that my spiritual practice is really an exercise in noticing.

When you tune in to the land I believe that you add your own energy to the place so I always make sure to ask the earth and the ancestors for permission, particularly when I am walking in a new place. Walking really is the best spiritual practice for me and is good for my mind, body and spirit.
