Devotion: How I do it with Ruby ToadLet welcome Ruby Toad to Rockstar Priestess!

Ruby is a red-hot life coach, and she’s been here before to gently introduce us sceptics (I am a hella sceptical hippy) to the magic and power of crystals, since she is an accredited Crystal Healer too. Today, as part of our Summer of Devotion, Ruby shares her own personal devotional practice with us. There are so many ways to take time to connect in with ourselves and Deity every day, and every person does their daily devotions differently. Take it away Ruby!

My daily spiritual practice is really informal and unstructured. It’s more a collection of moments and small actions taken throughout the day than it is any special ritual.

It’s waking up after a restless night and following my first thought of “I’m so tired” with a silent thank you for a safe place to sleep, shelter from the weather and a comfy bed.

It’s walking barefoot in my yard, looking to see what flowers are blooming and pausing to touch and connect with the big ash tree that watches over us and seems to hold the heart of our space.

It’s the visual reminder from the small sacred spaces scattered throughout my home:
A shelf with a photo of my family and special crystals charged with blessings for them.
A side table with sacred objects and found treasures that speak of the divine.

A special hook for holding my mala beads when they aren’t in my hands.

The closest thing I have to any regular formalized practice is my morning coffee! I get up and sit in the quiet by myself with my first cup of the day. It’s my time and it’s something I’ve done for years and years.

I often just sit and ponder while I drink in the aroma and flavor of that first cup. I try to make a point of not checking my phone or turning on my computer while I have my coffee. This is my time alone with myself and the divine.

It gives me a chance to sort out and reflect on any dreams, a chance to collect my thoughts and see what’s happening with me. The more I honor it the better my days go.

As my kids know, Mom’s always happy to see you, after her first cup of coffee.
