All these wiccan types like to put the world Lord or Lady in their names, not to feel important or like they are better than you, but to bring a sense of power and responsibility to their life! I’ve been very into the concept of goddess as Soverign over the past month and research into how a woman can be queen, priestess, goddess and soverign of her own life. What empowermeant means, persay. It’s not just about monotonously chanting I-am-goddess-yes-I-am-I-am-the-embodiment-of-the-divine in front of the mirror as you brush your teeth every day – its about picking an empowerment that really feeds you, inspires you and pushes you to accept Goddess as a part of yourself.

Of late, having studied the role of Goddess as Queen and Soveriegn, I started thinking about how I can apply that to my life. Finally, I got it. My current mantra is “I am Queen of my life. How shall I choose to rule today?” This to me is really deep and profound. It’s not about feeling pompous and self important, or that as a witch I am more of a person than others. That’s all nonsense. It is, however, about recognising the divine within and the ultimate power I have over how my life happens and how I choose to approach it. As a witch (and as a normal person) I have the ability to lead whatever kind of life I wish, and recognising that power helps me to use it, make me feel good about myself and get those things done that a Queen would get done such as TV lisencing, e-mailing people back, liasing with brittish gas and doing the dishes. Would a Queen allow outstanding bills to sneak up on her? No. Would a Queen leave a correspondant unreplied, or would she write back promptly and politely? That’s a no-brainer. Would a Queen leave plates covered in baked bean sauce to stand shamefully beside the sink, or would she take pride in her beautiful home?

Calling myself Queen is not pompus – my only kingdom is my life, so where is their any oppertunity to lord it over others? Recognising my own power allows me to recognise how I can go ahead and get the life that I want, and that can only be a good thing.
