Avalon Remembered - the living blueprint for the modern day priestess.

One of the reasons I love Avalon so much is that it invites us to be a part of reweaving an ancient myth – Avalon Remembered. We are recreating what it means to serve the goddess, to be a priestess, and remembering what it means outside of the rigid systems our world is locked into.

Avalon is an island of love, generosity, healing and devotion. It is both a celebration of life and an honouring of death, as it is also the place where the dead dance with the faeries at their fabulous parties and processional faery rades.

It teaches us that as priestesses, we are here to serve and honour life, to see the threads of the sacred in all stages of life, and to honour and mark deaths and endings. We don’t hide from those edges.

There isn’t a specific goddess at the heart of this island – there are many shifting goddesses who are deeply connected with Avalon and may have been the heart energy of the ancient priestesses, but in the end it isn’t about my-goddess-over-your-goddess. It is living the heart values of the Goddess and holding that energy of Avalon – of peace, devotion and love.

And that’s the key of Avalon – it is the priestesses, not the goddess herself that really hold the call. It is their spirit of devotion, embodied presence and seeing the sacred that calls us through the veils. It is the archetype and role of the priestess that shines through so clearly, bringing us such clarity, wisdom and peace in our every day lives.

The Goddess is present not just in the temples and not just as some almighty force that is better and more powerful than all of us, but alive in the woods, trees, plants and fields – alive in the hands of the Priestesses who serve her on the Isle.

As the priestesses call, they remind us that the work of the goddess is about community. It’s not about being a hermit on a rock never uttering a word – it’s about working together, joining with others, knitting the world together with love and shared desires and compassion.

And it’s not about hierarchy either. It’s not about one priestess being the high bestest priestess and everyone else jostling for the top job once she has gone – like the Nine Queens of Avalon, there is no competition, just each of us fully embracing our unique skills, passions and genius and being respected and loved for that.

I adore that so many people have remembered Avalon in so many different ways – I feel all the different lenses bring so much and really hold the heart of the path. I have my way of touching the priestess spirit of Avalon, and many other people (Jhenah Teylndru, Holly Rhiannon Seraphine, Kathy Jones, and Mara Freeman to name a few) have their own ways of interpreting it.

Avalon is a song that calls to us through dreams, a feeling, and energetic signature that guides us back into what it means to walk as Priestess in the modern world.

Do you feel this call of Avalon?
