Am I too old to join a Mystery School? Here’s the thing about the goddess circles and joining an initiatory coven like Sister Sibling Year.
Folk of all ages are welcome…
(And just so you know, Sister Sibling Year is open to all cis and trans women, as well as non-binary people who are comfortable being in a space that centres the experiences of women and this year anyone else who wants to join us!)
… and here is something that I find women in particular need to hear.
Sometimes we can feel weird entering a circle of (mostly) women like this, and it gets all our vulnerability hackles raised and our not-good-enough demons smacking their lips…
… perhaps especially when your circle is run by a woman who is blessed by her big chubby cheeks to always look super duper young, and has all those fancy pictures with wavy pre-raphaelite hair swanning around in rivers and in piles of rose petals and stuff.
I’ve definitely had the experience of being the youngest person in the group over and over. And our world makes it that we are always either too young or too old, so there is no winning.
In a circle or an initiatory coven, truly, age does not matter.
In Sister Sibling Year, we have had women and folks in their very early twenties, late twenties, thirties, forties, fifties, sixties…
… and all are loved, all are welcome, all have unique perspectives and powerful wisdom to contribute to the circle and to our understanding of Morgan le Fay and her path of Avalon.
In the circles I have been a part of during my priestess education, I have made dear friends with people of so many ages – heart sisters of EVERY decade.
And that’s the way it should be. That’s how a community works – everyone from every phase of life all together.
When I run a Red Tent, there is a beautiful tradition that I uphold: every women arranges herself around the circle in order of age, so that when we look in one direction we can see where we have come from, and in the other direction we can see where we are going.
It’s a powerful reminder that we are all on the same journey, and we are all so connected.
All ages can walk this path to Avalon.
