Many people have asked me about my Priestess of Avalon training…
… why Morgan le Fay?
Just why would I choose someone so incendiary to be our guiding goddess?
And why am I so freaking obsessed with walking in her footsteps on the path to Avalon?
Well, let me tell you.
1. She is the Goddess of Sisterhood.
Weaver of the council of 9 queens, Morgan le Fay is dedicated to collaborative power, to sharing responsibility and creating space for everyone to shine.
She knows how to hold and share power with grace and wisdom.
And she never does anything alone – she always has her team of queens beside her.
This is what the Priestesses of Avalon are all about. We were born to work together, share the load and expand what is possible…
… but to do this takes retraining. Sisterhood has been under a vicious attack for the past few thousand years, and everyone needs to learn how to feel safe with others. As priestesses we need to learn how to create safe spaces so that others can heal from these brutal wounds and blossom into true community and team spirit.
As a goddess so interwoven in legend with the Priestesses of Avalon, Morgana holds this gentle sisterhood spirit so strongly.
And just like Morgan le Fay, as a good priestess we shapeshift in and out of the shadows, knowing when to take the centre stage and when to allow others to shine, making space and platforming their brilliance.
It’s not about us. It’s about service.
2. She is the Challenger and the Initiator.
Morgan is the challenger of the patriarchy. She sees the holes in the system and pulls them apart so something new can be created – something that benefits more than just the stiff white guys in charge.
This is what we are here to do. As the pioneers of the Goddess movement, we are re-imagining, weaving and living a life-affirming, earth-honouring, equality-centred path in the world, and we are devoted to showing others that there are MORE BEAUTIFUL ways to live.
I know this sounds fluffy and fancy and easy as pie, but blazing a trail is always a challenge.
Morgan le Fay is always prodding and poking us to be authentic to our true path, to stop dicking around our destiny and take ACTION. She makes sure that you get stuff done, and as priestesses we need a taskmaster to orient us on our path and give us a push in the right direction.
She is not afraid. We need her boldness on our Priestess path.
3. Morgana is the Mother of Priestesses.
She’s been known as the celtic Isis, and as the keeper of all the traditional priestess arts, including magic, ceremony, herb craft and oracle. She is Faery, connecting us to a world and community broader than our human brothers, sisters and siblings.
She holds the edge of magic and ritual that we need as Priestesses. We know that the physical world dances with the energetic, and as Priestess our job is to have a foot in both worlds.
Morgan knows how to straddle both without getting lost – how to be irresistibly witchy while being inherently practical.
So useful for people whose vocation asks them to both be the focaliser of magical experiences and the one who has to remember to pay invoices and pick the wax out of the carpet.
4. She is the goddess of Power!
As priestess, we do not get to opt out of making decisions and lay all our worries and issues at the feet of the Goddess and expect someone else to magically solve them for us. We don’t get to bypass our desires, waiting for fate or divine timing to sort it out for us.
I know that sometimes we have a dream that this is how it should be, and man it would be nice if being a priestess = no responsibility and choice, but it’s not the way.
Being super spiritual is not a simple abdication of responsibility to a higher power. That’s how you get both spiritual nutcases and those new age folk who are just so darned ineffective at anything real world.
If we want to live our destiny, we can’t be passive about it – we have to step up and take some bold actions, make some big choices.
If we ARE goddess, if her creative power surges through us as it surges through all things, then our choices are also powerful and holy.
Morgan challenges us to step into our SELF. To stop the self denial and flagellation and step into who we desire to be, who we were born to be.
It’s by stepping into ourselves we can serve.
She asks us to CHOOSE. Will we step up? Will we do this?
Power is essential on the path to being a badass priestess – it is your fuel to change the world. When you to know how to wield it with wisdom you become a force for the Goddess in the world.
And as a priestess of Avalon, YOU ARE ALL THESE THINGS.
You are magic, sisterhood and rapture.
You are wildness, boldness and surrender.
You are devoted, determined and powerful.
Morgana holds all the skills that a modern Priestess of Avalon needs: she is magician, death doula and ceremonialist, prayer-teller, song-singer and blessing-whisperer.
She is both the high priestess of rarified energy, holding the sword of sovreignty and speaking words of prophecy…. and the raucous faery party hostess who knows how to convince people to go skinny dipping at midnight.
She’s a shapeshifter, like you and me.
And there is no one better to lead us on the path of Avalon.
